Crikey they love their golf in Victoria!
We recently stayed at the historic Victoria Golf Club in Cheltenham, Melbourne while shooting some Golf Getaway episodes. It’s a classic old golf club that is the birth place of many of our legends – including Peter Thomson and Geoff Ogilvy.
We stayed upstairs in the club house – an amazing historic building with many a story to tell I am sure, and we could not have been looked after better. Thanks guys. But I have to wonder why Victorians love their golf, in fact sport so much. The wag in me suggests that there’s not much else to do down there, but that would be unfair. Seems every major sporting event is always well supported – I mean they even have club games of footy where over 100,000 people turn up. It just seems to feel like they love getting out there – being social – testing themselves and they love showing it all off to visitors.
Their hospitality and enthusiasm for our show is without doubt the strongest in Australia. I was even recognised down there – in a burger bar and on the putting green at Royal Melbourne. We certainly don’t get that in Sydney where we live – maybe the pretty sister is just too busy looking at it self.
So thanks Victoria we had a great time playing and staying at the some of the world’s best and if you ever feel like a very special golf experience check out this place- you’ll love it. For some great stay and play packages visit www.victoriagolf.com.au
