Recently Mirror and I were guests of Moonah Links on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. It’s a golf spot I hadn’t been to before but with its legendary status in Australian Golf I was sure it would deliver.

We did four shows down there, two on Moonah Links-one for their Open Course and the other for their Legends Course. Heading to one of Australia’s most southern points in the middle of winter was always going to be a gamble as this in the end turned out to be.

We got the shows but we also got wind- lots of it and it was cold – coming in straight off the Southern Ocean. So which course did I prefer- the Open or The Legends course? Find out.

The Peter Thompson designed Open course was specially designed to host championship golf. As a result it’s really long, 6,783 metres with spectator viewing platforms all around the course. And it is tough- Peter reckons the average golfer will need another 8 shots. With the wind I needed those and a few more.

Apart from those unique characteristics and the fact that this was probably the closest I’ll ever get to ‘championship golf’ I found the course uninspiring. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great course in wonderful condition but not enough contrast for me.

Where as The Legends Course I loved. It’s tighter with a more varied layout and as they say on the Moonah Links website “a more friendly golfing experience for players of all ages and experience”. And as silly as it sounds- I loved the fact that each hole was named after a Legend of golf. I have never struck that at a golf course before and it provides inspiring thoughts and visuals as you play the course.

So Moonah Links. Open or The Legends.

Which one do you prefer and why?
