Gee you feel special when you play at Hamilton Island Golf Club. It starts early with the ferry over to Dent Island from Hamilton Island. The old sea dog of a skipper has a tale or two and he tries to get as many in as he can in the 10 minute trip.

You are then met at the jetty and welcomed- “lets us take your bags”. A hot face towel at the club rooms, course guide, tees. Then to the first. Without a doubt Hamilton Island is one of the finest golf courses I have played. The views are to die for, condition of the course, practice facilities, atmosphere- the entire package.

But it ain’t easy.

But then maybe it’s not as hard as you think. The fairways are very resort like – wide. Greens superb. So there really should be no excuse. But the first time you play you start thinking about the rough and it plays with the mind. Once you get over that it’s not a hard course.

I was so much better in my second round. My favourite hole? Well they are all pretty special but the stand out for me is the stunning 4th. What a magnificent setting for a golf hole.

I also loved the 18th- what a club golfer ego booster that hole is. You’re up very high and when you get your drive away it feels like it flies for miles.

Back home to Hamilton Island at the end of the day and as you cruise the streets looking for a restaurant, you can see Dent Island just across the water.

You know I’m sure I heard the other night as I strolled back to my room after a couple of wines, the golf course call out. “Hey Fade- is that all you got? See ya tomorrow”
